Caracas, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reiterated today the call to raise alert levels to the presence in the country of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19 .
During a meeting to balance the pandemic situation, the president reported that the country currently registers a rate of six cases per 100,000 inhabitants, low compared to other countries in the world, although with a slight upward trend in recent days.
Faced with this scenario, Maduro reiterated the call to citizens to take extreme measures of biosecurity, and above all to go to the immunization centers to get the corresponding vaccines against the pathogen.
The Venezuelan health authorities in 2021 exceeded 90 percent of the population vaccinated against Covid-19, and the previous week they began the administration of the booster doses, with the use of the drugs Sputnik Light (Russia), Sinopharm (China) and Abdala (Cuba).
The head of state specified that since the beginning of the pandemic, Venezuela identified 448 thousand 463 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease, of which five thousand 762 are active, the majority treated in the public health system.
He also highlighted that 98 percent of the infected people in Venezuela overcame the viral picture, while 5,366 people died as a result of Covid-19.
Regarding the application of new radical quarantine measures, the president of Venezuela announced that for now the normal functioning of social, economic and productive activity will continue, including face-to-face classes, although without relaxing prevention protocols.
In this regard, he indicated that, in the face of a considerable increase in infections, 72 percent of the population would approve the application of the seven plus seven method, consisting of a week of radical quarantine followed by a similar period of controlled flexibilization, a modality applied successfully in the country for pandemic control.
