Pérez was received by the PN authorities at the headquarters of this community. Originally Pérez was of white extraction and in 1986 he approached the Broad Front. In 1994 he was elected deputy by the newly formed Uruguay Assembly and later he would form Cabildo 1813.
In 1999, with his group, he obtained two seats for Maldonado. He was re-elected deputy in the 2004 elections. In the 2005 municipal elections he was a candidate for mayor but was defeated by Óscar de los Santos.5
In 2009 he was re-elected deputy for the period 2010-2015. In 2014 he was again elected deputy for the fifth time for Maldonado, being the list with the most votes at the departmental level of the Broad Front. In May 2015, he was the candidate with the most votes for the Maldonado Department Mayor’s Office, although according to the slogan law, the party that obtained the most votes was the National Party over the Broad Front, determining that whoever was elected mayor was the nationalist Enrique Antia.
