Lacalle Pou, for his part, highlighted at that time “his resilience and the passion he has put into political life” which, in his opinion, makes the center “in good hands,” said the president. In relation to the addiction center, Darío Pérez maintained that “we are just planting the tree, we have to wait for the fruits and we do not want to generate false expectations that this is going to be tomorrow”, In this sense, the former deputy of the Broad Front emphasized that what is intended with the center “is to strengthen a number of weak links in the chain, the traceability of what could be the life of a person who has problematic substance use.”
The center not only includes prevention, but also recruitment, treatment and “a vital and institutionally very weak part” which is acute detoxification, he explained. “Later, the treatment that we could call more chronic and a kind of exit house that in this case will be in the city of Pan de Azúcar, in the former police farm,” she added. In this place, he commented, the goal is to give people tools so that they can go out on the street and learn a trade. Darío indicated that it is a plan exclusively for Maldonado, “one of the departments that perhaps has more things to work on.” But he predicted that if they manage to make it an example, it can be transferred to the rest of the country.
