Cuba sends condolences to Turkey for victims of the recent explosion in a coal mine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) of Cuba sent heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Turkey for the loss of human lives and injuries as a result of the explosion of a mine in the province of Bartin, officials on the island reported.

From his official profile on Twitter, the Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, extended this message to the Turkish government, as well as to the families and relatives of the victims, after the burst happened this Friday in a coal deposit in that nation, according to a report of the Prensa Latina (PL) agency.

The Turkish Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu, has explained that the explosion that occurred 350 meters underground has so far caused 41 deadwhile search and rescue operations continue for a missing worker, reports the media.

The latest information provided by the official revealed that 58 of the 110 people present at the scene were already rescued by the teams or left on their own, the information specifies.

It also transpired that a fire within the installation and that maintain the efforts of isolation and cooling of the fire.

The agency also reports that one of the workers affected by the explosion received a medical discharge and that another ten remain under treatment in health centers in the town of Bartin and the capital in Istanbul.

PL recalls that Turkey frequently experiences serious accidents in coal and lignite mines. The largest of these incidents in recent years occurred in May 2014 at a Soma field, in the western province of Manisa, which caused the death of 301 workers.
