San Borja celebrated pure culture and tradition

Horses and carts pulled by oxen, in addition to a series of folkloric dances flourished in San Borja for its patron saint festival this 2022. The Borjanos shone in the 329 years of foundation.

And it is not for less, people arrive in large numbers from different parts of the country and abroad to be part of the festivities.

“Hotels and residences fill up a week before. The festival of San Borja is a cultural and economic reactivation in Beni”, Antonio Martínez Subirana, director of Tourism and Culture of the Borjana Mayor’s Office, told EL DEBER.

It all begins on October 1 with the first night of the novena in honor of the patron saint San Francisco de Borja, and ends 14 days later with the traditional Borjanazo, a popular festival in which the winners of contests and cultural and sports activities that take place during the two weeks of the festival.

The folk entrance, which this year took place on October 8, is one of the most emotional and long-awaited moments for residents and visitors.

More than a hundred native dances, in addition to well-groomed wagon and horse parades, show Borjana culture in all its splendor.

“Thank God there was a nice party and without events to regret. I am sure that the people who visited us left happy with what they experienced in our town,” Ronald Tovías Simón, mayor of this municipality, located in the Ballivián province (Beni), told Diario Mayor.

Another of the massive concentrations in which joy explodes is in the serenade (October 9) and in the traditional jocheo de toros. More than 4,000 people attend the corral every day, since it is the largest rodeo in the country. The men and women ride the bulls.

María René Leigue Velarde, 22, was chosen as Miss San Borja in an election that took place in the cattle ranchers’ fairground. The crown of Miss San Borja fell on Mariel Sofía Aponte.

Both earned the right to participate in Miss Beni, which takes place in Trinidad. “I am very grateful to the people and authorities of my town for the support and affection they have shown,” said Leigue, a young student studying Architecture and Urbanism at a private university in the capital of Beni.

San Borja is an intermediate city in Bolivia, which has about 60,000 inhabitants. It is considered the livestock capital of Beni
