VI Summit of Cooperatives declared of educational interest

The technical opinion DC No. 173 presented by the Curriculum Department of the MEC dictates that “the event seeks to contribute to the cooperative strengthening of the participants and the organizations they representaim to show the capabilities and experiences of cooperatives to boost the economy in times of crisis, becoming reference models for fair and resilient societies”.

The “VI Summit of Cooperatives of the Americas” will be held from October 24 to 27, 2022, in Luque (Asunción -Paraguay)at the Convention Center of the Conmebol headquarters and the VIII Continental Congress of Law will be from October 27 to 29 at the fifth Ykua Sati.

According to the organizers, it is expected to bring together 1,200 world leaders in the sector, to which another 800 people will be added virtually, which could reach 2000 people. The activity will take place at the Conmebol Convention Center in Luque, Paraguay.

The international event is organized by Cooperatives of the Americas, regional representation of the International Cooperative Alliance (ACI) for the American continent, together with seven other affiliated organizations from Paraguay.

The VI Summit will develop relevant academic axes for the sector, first of all, Cooperative Identity, in the face of global challenges and virtuality to involve current and future leaders of the movement in the analysis of cooperative identity. In addition, exalt the Declaration on the Cooperative Identity, identify actions that Cooperatives of the Americas can take to update, deepen and protect the cooperative identity.

As a second academic axis it is proposed to dialogue, debate and deepen the “Economic Reactivation and Integration” with which it is intended to show the capacities and experiences of cooperatives as actors to boost the economy in periods of crisis, constituting reference models. Show the resilience of cooperativism in times of crisis, a model that adapts and strengthens communities to bring economic and social development.

There will also be a debate on “Sustainability and Climate Change” to deepen the conversation about how the cooperative movement contributes to the promotion of sustainable production and consumption patterns, the elimination of hunger and the sustainable management of natural resources.

The opening will be in charge of Ariel Guarco, president of the International Cooperative Alliance (ACI), Graciela Fernández, president of the Cooperatives of the Americas and César Guillermo Cruz Roa, representative of Paraguay before the Regional Council of Cooperatives of the Americas, of the International Cooperative Alliance.
