CEPM will invest one billion dollars in renewable energy

CEPM invertirá mil millones de dólares en energía renovable

With the combination of technologies, it is intended to reach 20% of renewable energies in the CEPM matrix by the end of 2023, said Roberto Herrera, executive director

The Punta Cana-Macao Energy Consortium (CEPM) will invest 1,000 million dollars to convert its generation to 100% renewable in 2030, the company’s executive director, Roberto Herrera, reported yesterday.

“We are committed to achieving carbon neutrality with the use of renewable energies (wind and solar), storage systems (batteries and reservoirs) and the use of green hydrogen,” he said while participating in the breakfast organized by the Association of Industries of the Republic Dominican (AIRD) with the theme “CEPM: model of innovation and success in the regional energy sector”.

He specified that with the combination of these technologies it is intended to reach 20% of renewable energies in the matrix of CEPM by the end of 2023, 60% by the end of 2026 and 100% in 2030.

Storage is crucial for renewable energy to guarantee sustainability, since there is no sun or wind 24 hours a day, he said.

He explained that CEPM promotes the electrification of transport as part of its commitment to sustainability and the environment, for which 82% of its vehicle fleet is already fully electric.
CEPM is the first company in Latin America to be part of EV100, a global initiative that brings together visionary companies committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles, he said.

He highlighted that CEPM is a pioneer in the implementation of smart grids, and currently maintains 100% of its clients in smart metering, which makes it the first company in the country to have all of its telemetered services.

The prepaid system, which serves more than 70% of CEPM’s 51,200 clients, is part of this technology in which this company is a pioneer. It has also contributed to a 30% reduction in hotel operating costs with cutting-edge thermal solutions such as the District Energy system.

He stated that the company supplies electricity to 65% of national tourism, that is, to more than 55,000 hotel rooms.

The company’s losses reached 4.61% in 2021 and the percentage of claims is just 1%. Celso Juan Marranzini, president of the Association of Industries, stated that the country values practices that promote environmental sustainability and simultaneously the efficiency of the service they provide, that show a persistent commitment to the environment, that believe in innovation as a way to implement their proposals.
