50 days have passed since the last time that the political prisoners held in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Chipote”, were seen by their relatives. The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo have kept them for more than four weeks without the right to a family meeting.
This situation keeps the relatives of the political prisoners concerned and under alarm, who have repeatedly demanded that the police authorities of the preventive center draw up a regular schedule of visits every 21 days, just like the hostages of conscience in the System. Tipitapa National Penitentiary (SPN).
The last visit received by the political prisoners locked up in “El Chipote” was at the end of August and after denouncing the reduction in food, the regime exhibited them before the propaganda media. That was the only time they have been able to see them in more than a month and a half.
The greatest concerns of the relatives of the political prisoners are the health and physical condition of four of the opponents who remain on a hunger strike. Irving Larios and Dora María Téllez demand that the incommunicado regime end, that they be allowed reading material and medical care for the sick.

Róger Reyes and Miguel Mendoza have been on a hunger strike for more than 20 days, demanding that the dictatorship let them reunite with their daughters. The 27 political prisoners detained in the electoral context, who are in “El Chipote”, are subjected to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, as reported by their relatives and human rights organizations.
The Mechanism for the Recognition of Political Prisoners updated the number of hostages of conscience to 219 so far this year. Most have been charged with crimes of treason under a set of repressive laws created to persecute the opposition.
