The Minister of Defense, Jorge Taiana, participated in a bilateral meeting with his Mexican counterpart, Luís Crescencio Sandoval González, in the framework of an official visit to Mexico, where he stated that “these are times to strengthen bilateral ties and mechanisms” between the two countries, they reported in a statement.
“I am convinced that these are times to strengthen bilateral ties and mechanisms in defense matters between both countries,” Taiana assured, according to the military portfolio.

Along these lines, he valued the possibility of “exchanging mutual experiences and perspectives” and distinguished, among them, the “scientific-technological area of the Defense industry, cooperation in the development of capabilities of the Armed Forces on civil protection.”
In addition, he considered that “it is really important that today we can carry out this official exchange visit to Mexico between the highest military authorities.”
With that Latin American country “we are united by a history that is linked to the Mexican Revolution” Y He stressed that this armed conflict “has had a great impact throughout the 20th century and was extremely important for the development of democracy and regional solidarity.”he remarked.
Taiana also valued the importance of the National Defense Fund (Fondef) law and stressed that “never before have the Armed Forces had a specific fund for their re-equipment.”
“And also that it be a multiplier of the economy and a generator of jobs for the productive apparatus of the national defense industry,” he added.
In this framework, he considered that this law “forces us to think about our own productive and technological developments” and pointed out that “for that we need partners that add their comparative advantages and that contribute to generating more robust economies.”
The minister thanked his counterpart for the “support to the Argentine Republic in each international space for claiming sovereign rights over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands.”
Sandoval González praised the meeting for the “integration of wills with the determined participation to reaffirm the realization of common interests for the benefit of our countries.”
Meanwhile, he pointed out that “cooperation ties will be consolidated in concrete actions, with the adaptation of our own means to each of the needs required by the National Defense doctrines, in aspects that mean strengthening the development of the Armed Forces.”
In the meeting entitled “Interministerial Strategic Dialogue between Mexico and Argentina”which began on Monday and ended on Wednesday, “the main issues on the bilateral agenda were analyzed,” the military portfolio reported in an official statement.
Among them, he highlighted “the exchange in training and professional development, cooperation in peacekeeping operations and the development of defense industry capabilities.”
The text disclosed that during their stay in Mexico, the Argentine delegation also met with the Secretary of the Navy, Admiral José Rafael Ojeda Durán, with whom “a joint Declaration was signed that endorses the Memorandum of Understanding established between both portfolios.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Minister Taiana spoke at the Colegio de México on the Argentina-Mexico bilateral relationship and was accompanied by the Argentine ambassador Carlos Tomada.
