The National Association of Producers of Laying Hens (Asonaprop) made a call to President Luis Abinader, due to the alleged bankruptcy in that sector for several months due to overproduction in the Dominican Republic.

The association indicated that overproduction arises as a result of the granting of import permits for light breeding hens, carried out by previous and current authorities, in recent years; increasing their supply by 40%, in a market that grows by 4%.
“The Asonaprop, warned of the consequences that would derive from the lack of planning, through public documents; and today, the egg industry is suffering the effects of it,” the statement said.
“We produce a food with a high protein content, and low cost, considered by experts as an essential component of human nutrition. Highly nutritious and easily digestible. Rich in components such as phosphorus, calcium, iron, iodine and selenium, as well as vitamins that they play important roles in maintaining bodily functions,” the associates said in the paper.
“All this information is of great interest to the country, but this very special day that should be a reason for rejoicing and celebrating, is, on the contrary, a source of concern and sadness. The egg industry is submerged in a great crisis that It’s been several months,” they said.
