The provinces of Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera and Los Santos remain under Green Alert from 1:00 p.m. this Friday, October 14, until Monday, October 17, 2022, this after the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) declared the alert against the influence of the South West wind generated by a low pressure system located over the Gulf of Los Mosquitos.
According to Sinaproc, the circulation of the south-west wind will cause low pressure, bringing moisture to the Panamanian Pacific region, mainly in the aforementioned provinces. They explained that the winds oscillate between 10 to 15 knots of speed; that is, from 17 to 27 km/h.
The authorities indicated that accumulated rainfall amounts of 100 mm to 250 mm are expected in the next few hours.
Faced with this new green alert, sinaproc recommended that the population, and especially those who live in risk areas, stay informed through official channels and abide by the recommendations and prevention measures such as not attending, during the declaration of alert, trails, rivers, streams, lakes and beaches. It is also recommended to avoid crossing rivers or streams that continue to rise.
