Carabineros informed through their social networks that, through the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security, the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, approved the formation of the new High Command of Carabineros de Chile proposed by Director General Ricardo Yáñez Reveco; who will remain in charge of him.
Among the general officers called to retire are Inspector General Juan Pablo Caneo, who was in command of the Eighth Carabineros Zone, and also Inspector General Hugo Zenteno, head of the XI Aysén Police Zone.
Likewise, the uniformed police reported on the promotion to said position of Carlos González Gallegos and Patricio Escobar Torres. The first will be the new head of the Metropolitan Zone, while the second will take over as Comptroller General of the institution.
The new Carabineros High Command, in turn, will have General Marcelo Araya Zapata as deputy general.
The National Director of Personnel was General Rodrigo Cerda; and in the National Directorate of Order and Security, Enrique Monrás Álvarez. The latter faced questions about the actions of the institution during the social outbreak of 2019.
Along the same lines, General Luigi Lopresti, head of the Carabineros Police Intelligence Directorate (Dipolcar), remained in his position, and was accused of orchestrating a plan to “undermine” the Government of President Gabriel Boric.
