Uribe case: Prosecutor's Office will finish preclusion request at the end of November

The Attorney General’s Office announced that it will finish supporting the request for preclusion of the investigation for alleged witness tampering against former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, at the end of November.

This Friday concluded the presentation of two of the seven points that are part of the arguments in which they are the more than 20 pieces of evidence that the Prosecutor’s Office and with whom he seeks to request the preclusion of the investigation for the crimes of bribery in criminal proceedings and procedural fraud.

Between November 21 and 25, the Prosecutor’s Office will expose the other five points with which he warns will leave no doubt about the innocence of the top leader of the Democratic Center.

According to the delegate of the Prosecutor’s Office, Javier Cárdenas, the estoppel is specifically requested due to atypicality, that is, because it was established that the former president, He did not commit any crime nor did he ask anyone to bribe or offer legal benefits in exchange for testifying in his favor and against Senator Iván Cepeda.

According to the prosecutor, there is no evidence of the criminal responsibility of the former senator, Therefore, his innocence is noted and he should not continue to be investigated for acts that he did not commit or that he did not order.

“The Prosecutor’s Office considers that the new means of knowledge plus those that were in the statement, allow with the certainty required by law that Álvaro Uribe Vélez’s behavior in events 1 and 2 is atypical,” the prosecutor said.

He added that “There is no evidence that has determined the responsibility of citizen Uribe Vélez, nor is there evidence that another person has been determined to carry out these behaviors, that is, to obtain a retraction (…)”.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor of the process assured that it was possible to prove that Lawyer Diego Cadena only asked Juan Guillermo Monsalve, considered the star witness in this case, tell the truth about the case.

“What was shown is that Diego Cadena, in event 1, told him: – tell the truth – and what his friend Carlos Eduardo López Callejas alias ‘el llanero’ told him: -tell the truth-; under those conditions the Prosecutor’s Office claims the atypical behavior of former senator Álvaro Uribe Véléz (…)”, assured.
