Paganini highlighted the strength of the Uruguayan digital system

The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, Omar Paganini, participated in the panel “Evolution of Uruguay’s digital policy”, within the framework of the event of the Agency for Electronic Government and Information and Knowledge Society (Agesic) Challenges 2025 He highlighted the strength of national digital technology in agriculture and production systems and assured that the Government supports its permanent growth.

In the meeting, held this Wednesday the 12th in the amphitheater of the annex building of the Executive Tower, the president of the Communications Services Regulatory Unit (Ursec), Mercedes Aramendía, also participated as exhibitors in the aforementioned panel; the technical director of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Diego Aboal, and the president of the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies (CUTI), Carlos Acle.

On the occasion, Paganini referred to the advancement of digital technology in the exploitation of agriculture and in the country’s production systems, specifically, in the forestry chain. In this sense, he stated that the country has machinery that provides data on the panorama of the plantation.

In addition, he indicated that the digital system in Uruguay is very powerful and announced that the Government will promote its enrichment with the support of the public sector. “Our vision is to expand the possibility of open laboratories and the development of pilots facilitated by the Government,” he assured. He added that it is projected to attract talent and generate investment for Uruguay to position itself in the world as the pole of innovation in South America.

Aramendía, meanwhile, stressed the importance of infrastructure for the construction of the digital world and for the country to consolidate itself as a regional pole of innovation and technology. He specified that there is 95% coverage for 3G technology and 93% for LTE 4G.

Aboal asserted that the INE works focused on the strategic plan presented in 2020, whose vision is to transform it into a manager and administrator of data from administrative records. He explained that a system designed to enable and support business intelligence tasks is being implemented (data warehouse), which integrates multiple sources of information to produce statistics. “We are generating statistics that have a much broader level of disaggregation, which allows us to analyze data at the department level,” he said.

Likewise, he maintained that, together with Agesic, they are trying to create a national demographic pattern. “It will be an example to imitate in Latin America,” he considered.
