The senior official stressed that one of the key factors to take into account is related to loss of purchasing power by the workers because of the inflation figures.
Consequently, Ramírez proposed the possibility of freezing the prices of the basic food basket in the country. The Minister of Education stressed that this is key to taking into account all the positions of those affected in the discussion of the minimum wage.
This implies the position of employers due to the increase they would assume in terms of labor costs.
“We are going to sit down with workers and businessmen to see what is the best option to increase the minimum wage for Colombians for next year”, Ramírez pointed out.
(Also: ‘We have a recession in sight,’ said President Petro).
For its part, the Government assured that there is no specific figure to reach the consultation table and, for now, they are studying all the proposals. Even those that speak of an increase from 12% to 15%.
Regarding only taking into account the annual inflation data for the increase in the minimum wage, the minister assured that “there are many formulas. The only thing is to look at how to link an increase taking into account the factors of high inflation and the well-being of Colombians”.
