Within the framework of the session of the mixed Budget subcommittee -where the specific transport items were addressed- there was an issue that came up again: the tweet published by the new director of the Santiago Metro, Nicolás Valenzuela, where he supported evasion of public transport in 2019.
From the opposition they condemned Valenzuela’s statements and asked for his resignation from the board of directors of the state company. Meanwhile, from Renovación Nacional, they conditioned the support to the budget items of public transport.
At the beginning of the session, deputy Frank Sauerbaum (RN) summoned the Minister of Transportation -present at the instance- Juan Carlos Muñoz, indicating that if Valenzuela is not dismissed, they will not give their support to approve the items.
“I understand that this was not your decision, but you will understand that you have to be responsible for people who work under your wing today,” he said.
Given this, Muñoz ruled that Valenzuela “has the skills to be director of Metro, although I understand the political point that is being made regarding the tweets that he could have made three years ago.”
