Murillo ignores expansion of EU sanctions against him

The Vice President of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, avoided referring to the expansion of sanctions applied by the European Union (EU) against her, on the contrary, she dedicated her monologue to announcing the projections for the General Budget of the Republic (PGR) of 2023.

Murillo announced that this October 14, the Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Iván Acosta, will present to the National Assembly the preliminary draft of the PGR for the year 2023, which “was approved by our president (Daniel Ortega) in all its figures and projections. At 3 in the afternoon tomorrow (Friday, the 14th), then comrade Iván (Acosta) will be delivering this very important document to the National Assembly, in the person of Dr. Gustavo Porras,” said the government spokeswoman.

At the same time, he announced that in terms of the progress of the restoration in the areas affected by Hurricane Julia, 97.71% of the electrical energy has been restored. “According to the report by comrade Salvador Mansell, we still have to restore 2.29%, that is, 35,485 families, to whom we send greetings, we ask for your understanding, the work has been hard, we know that it is difficult to be without energy and that many are affected. things, but we are arriving, the total electric power service and on the Caribbean Coast also where we have 9,572 families pending,” he reported.

Among these lines, the deputy president ignored the EU announcement issued this morning that warned of the one-year extension of the sanctions applied to 21 Ortega officials, a decision that, according to the Council, is the response to Daniel Ortega for the expulsion of the ambassador, Bettina Muscheidt, who was recently declared “persona non grata” by the regime.

On September 28, the dictatorship ordered the expulsion of the European representative in the Central American country after the EU delegation to the UN urged Ortega to “return the sovereignty of Nicaragua to the Nicaraguan people” and “restore democracy” in the country.

Ambassador Bettina Muscheidt arrived in Nicaragua in September 2021, just a year ago, replacing Pelayo Castro. In his welcoming speech, he said that within his functions is the “main responsibility to continue with the promotion and defense of the values ​​and principles that guide the actions of the European Union and its Member States, inside and outside its borders: respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law and respect for human rights.

The sanctioned package includes Rosario Murillo and her children Camila, Laureano and Juan Carlos Ortega Murillo, the National Police, the Supreme Electoral Council and the Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Post Office (Telcor). In addition to meeting in this combo the officials Gustavo Porras, president of the National Assembly; Bayardo Arce, economic advisor to the regime; the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Alba Luz Ramos; and the attorney general Ana Julia Guido.
