César Ríos, head of the Epidemiology Unit at Sedes Chuquisaca, confirmed seven cases of canine rabies in Sucre, where they perform focus blockade to avoid further infections.

He also indicated that they analyze declaring “yellow alert for a biological risk in the municipality of Sucre” so that resources can be allocated to take measures, such as a new canine vaccination.

This Thursday, Headquarters authorities and health personnel from the municipality of Sucre participated in meetings in which the declaration of yellow alert was raised, according to a report by Bolivia TV, cited by ABI.

Of the last two dogs diagnosed with rabies, the authorities indicated that they were indigenous cases, since they were infected outside their homes.

“One of the dogs bit a person and had contact with five others. There is no record of bites on the other; however, he had direct contact with nine people, so a total of 14” are followed upreports ABI, in relation to rule out risk of human rabies.

The Chuquisaca Headquarters announced a raking to vaccinate dogs that did not receive their dose against rabies in the campaign last August. This Thursday, two brigades, each with 30 officials, were displaced in San Cristóbal and in the Azari area, in the white city, to carry out the so-called focus blockade.
