Household consumption up 7.23% in August

Post-pandemic sales were more intense in the North Region

The consumption of Brazilian families increased by 7.23% in August compared to the same month in 2021, according to a survey released today (13) by the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras). In the first 8 months of the year, the increase is 2.67% compared to the same period last year.Household consumption up 7.23% in August

According to the Institutional and Administrative Vice President of Abras, Marcio Milan, the growth of the last month was driven by social benefits granted by the federal government as of August. In addition, according to him, there was also an impact from the reduction of unemployment and inflation, with the exemption of energy and fuel prices. “We’ve been looking at employability: employment has been growing and unemployment has been falling,” he said.

Based on the latest results, Abras also revised the projection for growth in household consumption this year, from 2.8% to growth of 3% to 3.3%. “The reflection of the aid, which started in August, of the fall in prices, which was accentuated in September, shows that our projection is certainly on the way to reaching 3% or 3.3%”, said Milan.

Inflation

The basket with the 35 most consumed products in supermarkets recorded a drop of 1.71% in September compared to August, costing R$ 745.03. However, compared to September 2021, when the set of products cost BRL 675.73, the basket rose by 8.76%.
