Lacalle Pou participated in the 60th anniversary of the Horizonte center

The Horizonte center celebrated its 60th anniversary in a ceremony attended by the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, who toured the facilities, participated in workshops with the children, signed the book of honor and observed the project for the new headquarters. He then discovered a plaque alluding to the six decades of the establishment. The relocation will improve the response and quality of life of users.

The president was accompanied by the president of the Institute for Children and Adolescents of Uruguay (INAU), Pablo Abdala; the vice president of the organization, Aldo Velázquez; the Minister of Transport and Public Works, José Luis Falero; the undersecretary of the portfolio, Juan José Olaizola; the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Pablo Mieres, and the president of the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), Robert Silva.

The center is planning a new school to serve the hundreds of children who are already there. With this building advance, an increase in the quality of life of this population will be achieved, with larger spaces and in the open air. It is a piece of land of 3,600 square meters, loaned by the ANEP.

Abdala pointed out that this is an institution “of great prestige, which provides a great service to society”, works for the care of children with a human rights perspective and a socio-educational approach, with the conviction that everyone should receive from the system the age-appropriate response. She highlighted the therapeutic approach and the commitment of the center’s technicians.

He added that, of the 60 years of the institution, 31 were strategically shared with INAU. “He is one of our main allies,” he said.

He announced that, on the occasion of the anniversary, a relocation project was presented, which will enable a better response and the ability to provide a better quality of life to users.

He explained that there are two current agreements with the INAU: one, active since 1991, intended for part-time assistance, and another, a full-time project, in order to provide permanent care to residents who require it throughout the day. .

He considered that it is an example that in Uruguay the principle of equity, in its broadest sense, with regard to children and adolescents, is in force through devices that provide responses that add value continuously.
