Madrid Spain.- In the midst of how difficult it is for Cubans to obtain any type of medication, the Island Government continues to promote “Health Tourism”.
“The efforts of the Cuban authorities to reinforce health issues bear fruit when today one of the important claims of world travelers is related to this sphere and quality of life,” reads a note published by Latin Press this Wednesday, dedicated to the project “Tourism: Competitive and sustainable development of the Cuban tourism product.”
According to the official media, the project aims to “create a strategy for the export of Health, Welfare and Quality of Life Tourism Services.”
“The initiative is part of the Foreign Commercial Exchange Program included in one of the six macro-schemes of the National Plan for Economic and Social Development until 2030, which is channeled by the authorities,” adds the information.
For the Cuban Government, tourism of this type constitutes “one of the highest potentialities in Cuba”, and has “a well-oiled infrastructure” that “responds to this perspective and creates a portfolio of products that allow travelers to have a reception as they expect in the sense of both cures and protection of their physical and psychological life.
According to the Cuban economist Miguel Alejandro Figuera, “the advantages of a Cuba with an organic and stable health system can contribute a lot to health tourism and quality of life, to the point of making it a relevant line both for travel and for the economic recovery of the nation”.
In the context of 40th. International Tourism Fair FITCuba 2022the company Comercializadora de Servicios Médicos Cubanos SA and the Cubanacán Group signed an agreement to promote health tourism on the Island.
As he remembered again Latin Press“it is an alliance that currently allows vacationers with kidney problems hemodialysis treatment, for example, while staying in hotels in Havana and the Varadero spa, also offers quality of life services to tourism from long stay in places like Ciénaga de Zapata”.
At the end of 2021, it transpired that the Spanish hotel company Meliá and the Cuban Medical Services Marketing Company itself signed a contract to sell health and wellness services to customers staying at the tourist facilities managed by the Spanish company on the island.
Due to these higher quality health services offered to tourists, which contrast with the reality of ordinary Cubans, the regime on the Island is constantly criticized.
In a report published by CubaNeta team of reporters from this medium stated that health tourism on the island is “a paradise for foreigners”, which contrasts with hospitals, polyclinics and maternity homes that the Cuban population has access to.
