Sales of new vehicles, motorcycles and trucks registered an increase of 10.57% in 2021 compared to license plates carried out in 2020, according to a balance sheet released today (6) by the National Federation of Automotive Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave).
Over the past year, 3.49 million units were sold, while in 2020 there were 3.16 million.
In December, sales registered a drop of 7% compared to the same month in 2020, with the sale of 337.6 thousand units.
Automobiles
Cars, however, had a drop in sales last year. In 2021, 1.55 million units were sold, a reduction of 3.6% compared to the result of the previous year. Last December, 156.1 thousand cars were licensed, a decrease of 19.7% compared to the same month in 2020.
The drop in car sales occurred, according to the president of Fenabrave, José Maurício Andreta Júnior, due to the production difficulties of industries that globally face the lack of various components. “Our market had the potential to absorb around 20% more than those sold last year”, he highlighted.
trucks and motorcycles
Trucks had a 42.8% growth in sales in 2021, with the sale of 127.3 thousand units. In December, 11,200 units were sold, an increase of 24.3% compared to the same month in 2020.
Motorcycles registered a 26.4% increase in sales in 2021, with the license plate of 1.15 million two-wheel vehicles. The sale of motorcycles in December grew 13.7% compared to the same month of the previous year, with the sale of 112.4 thousand units.
Forecast
For 2022, Fenabrave forecasts a 5.2% growth in the sector. “Our studies point to the growth of all automotive segments this year. But, of course, conjunctural situations can affect these estimates, considering that the industry still suffers from the lack of inputs and electronic components, that we are facing a still turbulent economy and starting a year in which we will have elections, which usually create a scenario of uncertainties”, assesses Andreta.
For the automobile segment, the expectation is for expansion of 2.9%.
