Hurricane Julia, downgraded to a tropical storm, left victims, evacuees and public damage as it passed through Nicaragua, especially in rural areas of the country where the Army has been deployed to transport humanitarian aid.
According to official information, the most affected were the inhabitants of the Caribbean Coast, where the category one hurricane hit in the first instance and with greater force, in the early hours of Sunday, October 9. A total of 6,469 people were left exposed to the elements in cities in the Caribbean of Nicaragua.

The statement issued by the Nicaraguan Army reported that “through the “Bosawas” Ecological Battalion, in coordination with the Municipal Committees for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (Comupred) of the municipalities of Siuna and Rosita, Autonomous Region of the Coast North Caribbean, as a measure against the flooding of rivers left in its wake by Hurricane “Julia”, they carried out loading, transfer and unloading of humanitarian aid in the warehouses of Inatec (National Technological Institute) and the Municipal Mayor’s Office of Rosita, later moved to the different shelters set up for the shelter and protection of the families that have been evacuated. During the delivery of aid, the authorities evacuated 18 more people who were at risk in the area, 14 of them were minors.
More of this aid, which is made up of food and zinc sheets for those who had damage to their roofs, has also been delivered in Masaya, Matagalpa, Chinandega, Chontales, León, Carazo, Rivas, Managua and the municipalities of the Caribbean Coast. The regime has taken advantage of this aid to carry out political propaganda for its future mayors, who have already been nominated to hold those positions from 2023.
Regarding public damages, such as the affectation of telephone, cable and internet services, they have been reestablished in Bluefields, Corn Island and Laguna de Perlas. According to a statement from the Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Post Office (Telcor), “the main damages have been caused by heavy rains, winds, fallen trees, damage to fiber optic infrastructure and lack of electricity supply. As the power supply is restored, telecommunications will also be restored.
«The crews remain deployed in the affected areas with the necessary supplies and materials, to start the restoration in the fiber cuts presented, as the weather conditions allow. Today, Tuesday, October 11, the affectation continues in the area of El Rama, and partial affectations in the following areas of our country: Nueva Guinea, El Tortuguero, Muelle de los Bueyes, Matagalpa, Jinotega, Chontales and Chichigalpa”, Telcor refers.

The passage of Hurricane Julia through Central America left at least 28 dead, 14 of them in Guatemala, four in Honduras, and nine in El Salvador.
