Alajuelense Sports League qualified for the final of the Concacaf League with a global score of 5-2 over Royal Spain, after drawing this Tuesday 2-2 the second leg of the semifinals. After thrashing 0-3 in the first leg in Honduras, Alajuelense used an alternate formation on Tuesday, which motivated Real España, led by Argentine coach Héctor Vargas, to dream of a comeback, which at times seemed possible.
Real España was up on the scoreboard twice with goals from Argentine striker Ramiro Rocca (19′ and 78′), but Alajuelense equalized through Honduran Alexander López, in the 43rd, and with a header from Giancarlo González in the 90th. With their qualification, Alajuelense ruled out the possibility of a Honduran final and awaits the Olympia in the end.
Olimpia, meanwhile, dropped Motagua by winning the second leg of the semi-finals 1-0 and got through to the final of the competition. In the first minutes of the game, which was played at the José de la Paz Herrera stadium in Tegucigalpa, Olimpia and Motagua, both from Honduras, had possession of the ball but were unable to score. In the 27th minute, Olimpia was left with ten due to the expulsion of Germán Mejía for a double warning.
Motagua also kept ten because in the 47th minute Marcelo Pereira was sent off but in the 87th minute a left-footed shot by Carlos Sánchez gave them the victory. The Motagua continued to attack, but it was of little use.
