Samper: Maduro is a great conciliator

The former president of Colombia, Ernesto Samper, praised this Monday the capabilities of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, for dialogue, because, in his opinion, he has proven to be an excellent negotiator and that, thanks to this, Venezuela will be able to move forward .

“I think we have underestimated him in one aspect. He is an excellent negotiator. That capacity to open spaces for negotiation, to make concessions and to intelligently put forward demands will be what, through dialogue, which unfortunately is at a standstill at the moment but will be reactivated, will allow Venezuela to move forward. I see her already rearing her head on economic issues,” Samper said in an interview with an international media outlet.

Likewise, the former Colombian president expressed his confidence that the dialogue between the Venezuelan government and the opposition sectors will be strengthened, although he acknowledged that the latter sector has put up obstacles.

“As long as the opposition does not unify its position regarding an alternative for change and present it coherently, it will be very difficult to find a definitive solution to the situation in Venezuela,” warned the former president.

The Government of Venezuela has been decisive as a negotiator and conciliator in the peace processes that are being carried out in the neighboring country, with the resumption of dialogue days ago between the Colombian authorities and the ELN guerrilla movement, in addition to promoting the resumption of commercial exchange between both nations, mainly along the border.
