This Friday the 7th, in the capital of the department of Río Negro, the first care center for victims of violence and crime (Cavid) became operational. The purpose of this initiative is to support and contain police officers who, due to their work, face traumatic conditions in the fight against the aforementioned situations. The aforementioned center will serve troops from the departments of Salto, Paysandú, Río Negro, Soriano and Colonia.
The inauguration was attended by the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber; the mayor of Río Negro, Omar Lafluf, and the departmental police chief, Omar Agrasar, who toured various dependencies of the Secretary of State.
In dialogue with the Presidential Communication, Heber explained that the center will provide social, human and medical support to the police family in those cases in which officers face traumatic conditions as a result of criminal situations in which they must intervene.
This headquarters, located in the 1st sectional building, in Fray Bentos, will cover the departments of Salto, Paysandú, Río Negro, Soriano and Colonia. Minister Heber pointed out that the new office makes it possible to decentralize and optimize services and considered that “serving and supporting police officers and their environment is essential.”
On the day, the chief toured the headquarters of Fray Bentos, Mercedes and Dolores and the Las Cañitas and Pense penitentiary units. “We want to know the conditions in which people deprived of liberty are found and the care they receive,” he said. He added that the portfolio’s policies on penitentiary matters focus on keeping inmates away from leisure situations.
