The European Medicines Agency (EMA) recently issued an alert about serious consequences of consuming a drug that combines ibuprofen with codeine.
In this sense, the National Director of Pharmacy and Drugs of the Ministry of Health of Panama (MINSA), Elvia Lau, indicated this Tuesday on Radio Panama that the prolonged use of this combination can lead to cases of renal, gastrointestinal and metabolic toxicity, as well as fatal outcomes.
“The person develops a dependency on codeine, you take larger amounts, more doses and longer, which can produce these toxicities,” he explained.
He warned that this combination is not registered in Panama, but is issued as a precaution to the population.
He stated that the combination is not bad, but that it should be taken for as long as the doctor prescribes it, which should be in a short period of two to three days.
