More than 60 complaints from women for malpractice surround the plastic surgeon, Dr. Carlos Alfieri Nisenbaum, who were left with physical and psychological consequences. As a result of the situation, the Superintendence of Health initiated an ex officio investigation against the doctor who is no longer part of the Paraguayan Society of Plastic Surgery, in addition to Operation Smile.
This was confirmed by Dr. Ignacio Mendoza, Superintendent of Health, who indicated that the institution under his charge has legal powers to intervene institutions who provide services, but not at the individual level.
“This case is an individual benefit. The articles of the health code are those that affect the provision of health. You have to do the formal complaint at the ministerial level so that the corresponding measures are taken”, he explained in dialogue with the 650 am. In this regard, the superintendent said that, despite the fact that no formal complaint was made, they are still investigating where the complaint was made to see if it has institutional incidenceclarifying that the management will investigate the health establishments and private sanatoriums where the plastic surgeon operated on his patients, subsequently, it will be determined how the case will move forward.

Likewise, Dr. Mendoza pointed out that the Ministry of Health can suspend the professional registration of the specialist, once it was verified that there was an attack against the well-being of the patient. “There are many complainants and they deserve focused attention in this regard. If the Paraguayan Society of Surgery has taken measures, it must be taken into account, ”he pointed out.
After the scandal that was unleashed by the numerous complaints against Dr. Carlos Alfieri, the Paraguayan Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery decided to exclude him as a member. The new list of titular and aspirant members was released and is no longer part of it.
