IPCA records price drop of 0.29% in September

Treasury Direct reaches sales of R$ 3.293 billion in December

The Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which measures official inflation, registered deflation (price fall) of 0.29% in September this year. This was the third consecutive month of deflation and the smallest change for a month of September since the beginning of the historical series, which began in 1994.IPCA records price drop of 0.29% in September

However, the decline in prices was less pronounced than those observed in August (-0.36%) and July (-0.68%). The data were released today (11) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Despite the price drop, the IPCA still accumulates price increases of 4.09% in the year and 7.17% in 12 months.

Four of the nine groups of expenses surveyed had a price drop in September, especially transport, whose rate was -1.98% in the month.

“Fuel and especially gasoline have a very large weight within the IPCA. In July, the effect was greater due to the establishment of the maximum ICMS rate, but, in addition, we have seen reductions in the average price of fuel sold to distributors, which has contributed to the continued fall in prices”, explains the research manager, Pedro Kislanov.

The groups communication (-2.08%), household articles (-0.13%) and food and beverages (-0.51%) also presented deflation.

On the other hand, five groups had a rise in prices: clothing (1.77%), personal expenses (0.95%), housing (0.6%), health and personal care (0.57%) and education (0. .12%).
