Pace of work at the Monte Grande dam was not affected by the passage of Hurricane Fiona

Azua.- The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) reported that the pace of work in the Multiple Project of the Monte Grande Dam remains in accordance with what was agreed in the schedule, after not presenting changes due to the recent passage of the hurricane Fiona.

In addition, the double shift implemented by the current management remains a primary action for the completion of its reservoir this year.

Olmedo Caba Romano, executive director of INDRHI, specified during an inspection tour that the dam wall is already at a height of 201.40 meters above sea level and is approaching its maximum height, which will be 206 masl.

Regarding the frequent supervision of the project, the official indicated that the magnitude of the work requires a continuous inspection of the volumes, for which a competent staff continues to carry out this mission day and night.

“The commitment assumed by the Government is to deliver this work without details and with clear accounts, since it is a transparent management of the project”, added Caba Romano.

Meanwhile, Carlos Javier, director of the INDRHI Executing Unit in the project, indicated that they maintain a double work shift, with around 900 workers who converge on the different fronts of the work.

“The implementation of both days is what has allowed the significant progress of this work,” said the engineer specialized in structure.

Regarding the margins of the dam reservoir designed to maintain the water, the water entity indicates that both walls, left bank and right bank, are in the final stage with more than 90% of their execution.

This was explained by the resident engineer, José Nin Vólquez, who pointed out that the materials that make them up meet the quality required to guarantee that the wall does not eventually erode, avoiding the reduction of its storage capacity due to infiltration.

Before his tour of the dam, the executive director of INDRHI led a meeting with representatives of the government entities that work simultaneously in the Populated Center, the Project’s social component, where they reviewed the work schedule for the important area that will house 390 families. of the Monte Grande, San Simón, La Meseta and Los Güiros communities.

The Ministry of Housing and Buildings, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications and the Ministry of Education were represented at the meeting, in addition to the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewage (INAPA) and the Electricity Distribution Company of the South (EDESUR), who advance in the installation of drinking water, sanitation and electricity services, in the construction of sidewalks and curbs, and in the asphalting of streets. They also build the school, the health center and sports facilities, among other works.
