The Council of the Judiciary approved on Monday the regulations for the election of the future attorney general. The new prosecutor will replace Sandra Quiñónez, whose mandate expires in March 2023 (she has been in office since 2018). Unless Quiñónez decides to run again for re-election and is elected again.
Quiñónez has already had to endure four impeachment attempts against him. The last one was treated in early September.
The plenary session of the Council of the Judiciary decided that from October 11 to 15 they will make the publications. While the registration period will run from Sunday, October 16 to Monday, November 14.
Those interested in occupying the position must have a minimum seniority of five years of the legal profession, from the issuance of their registration. Or have five years as a prosecutor. You must also submit the party disaffiliation request if you are affiliated.
The names that are considered to be candidates are; Cecilia Pérez, adviser on security matters to the Executive, Mónica Seifart, former representative before the Council of the Judiciary, René Fernández, minister of Seprelad and Sergio Godoy, current national senator. The names that are being considered to replace Quiñónez.
