The playwright and Deputy Minister of Culture, Giovanny Cruzwill offer the workshop “Construction of Characters”, on October 14 and 15, within the framework of the celebration of the 2022 Theater Workshop Cycle.
This cycle, which takes place at a national level, is part of the National Theater Festival.
The first teaching meeting directed by Giovanny Cruz to the theatrical community will take place at the María Montez Cultural Center in Barahona. This will be on Friday, October 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The second round will be on Saturday the 15th of this month in San Juan de la Maguana, at the Monina Cámpora Cultural Center, at the same time.
The objective of this educational meeting is that the actor has the ability, through the techniques and mechanisms they acquire, to build their characters.
In this way, Giovanny Cruz seeks that the actor does not depend on the producer when developing his character, that he has the necessary techniques and knowledge.
“The greatest incidence is what we are sowing in you, with the training of the 2022 Theater Workshop Cycle. The only way for us to achieve relevance within the theater tables is precisely with training,” assured the actor.
“With this workshop, what I am pursuing is to create mechanisms and techniques, which leave a mark on the actors in the creation of characters,” said Giovanny Cruz.
Topics of Giovanny Cruz’s workshop
The topics to be discussed are: psychological aspects of the character, the truths of the text, the actor’s attitude, lines of action, internal and external lines, social gestures and fundamental gestures of the character.
Likewise, Giovanny Cruz addresses the characterization, the uninterrupted line, the magic “if”, the magic circle, the five elemental questions of the character, overacting, the threshold of the subconscious and the actor’s killer touch.
Finally, it will address the management of the voice, the internal resonators, the concentration of attention and atypical situations within the theater.

This event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, through the Vice Ministry of Creation and Artistic Training.
It is aimed at advanced theater students and theater teachers.
