Madrid Spain.- Cuban Erick Hernández reached a new world record in control of the ball on October 9 by surpassing his own record.
From a sitting position on the floor, with a weight on each ankle of two and a half kilograms, he recorded a time of one hour, nine minutes and 50 seconds.
The 56-year-old ex-soccer player, known as “the dominator”, reached this new record in the lobby of the Copacabana hotel in Havana, a usual space for this type of event.
Last April Hernández had achieved the Guinness record by touching the ball with his head 351 times in one minute, thus beating the brand previous one that corresponded to the Chinese Gao Chong with 341 touches.
On that occasion the athlete announced that he would take a break and then resume his preparation.
“After a necessary rest and some personal inconveniences, he is back, and in his best way, with a new brand in the world,” said the official newspaper Granma this Sunday by sharing the news.
Erick Hernández began practicing sports at a very young age in the Cerro municipality of the capital. He ventured for the first time into the modality of mastery of the ball in 1994, following his brother Douglas Hernández, precursor of this specialty on the Island. He has been trained by coach Luis Olmasa for competitions.
In addition to the one mentioned, Erick Hernández has two other Guinness records; one for touching the ball 319 times for one minute with his head in 2005 and another in 2009 for connecting the ball with his thighs for one hour and 28 minutes.
