The Ministry of Production (Produce) today established the total maximum limit of capture of the resource parakeet (Coryphaena hippurus) in 44,000 tons, applicable until April 30, 2023.
It is worth mentioning that said limit can be modified depending on the availability of the mahi mahi resource, following a report from the Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe).
According to Ministerial Resolution 00334-2022-Produce, published today in El Peruano, for the computation of compliance with the maximum total catch limit, the landings made since the beginning of the season are considered.
In this way, the Ministry of Production, by means of the aforementioned norm, terminates the extractive activities of the mahi mahi resource when the established quota is reached or when the Imarpe recommends it due to environmental or biological circumstances.
Failing this, said extractive activities of the perico resource may not exceed April 30, 2023.
Imarpe monitors the biological, population and fishing indicators of the mahi mahi resource, and must promptly inform and recommend to Produce the conservation and fishing management measures that are necessary.
On the other hand, the General Directorate of Supervision, Control and Sanction of Produce monitors the established catch quota, and promptly informs the General Directorate of Policies and Regulatory Analysis in Fisheries and Aquaculture, in order to adopt the measures that result. necessary.
