Most retail stores SME registered a decrease in sales volume, as a whole it was reported that it was 3.5% in September 2022. In this way, they have already had three consecutive months of declines in sales compared to the year-on-year period.
Despite this, during the first nine months of the year, a growth in retail trade is observed SME 0.5% against the same period in 2021, according to the report of the Argentine Confederation of Medium-sized Enterprises (CAME). Five of the six items of the Business their transactions were reduced.
In this way, in the monthly balance, the sales of the SMEs they retracted 1.4% also with five items declining and one rising. The CAME Retail Sales index is prepared based on its monthly survey of 1,207 shops which took place between October 3 and 5 of the current year.
The sector on the rise was Pharmacy and Perfumery with an interannual increase of 8.1% in its sales and it was the only one to register an increase in the month of September.
The sales volume of each item
*Food and beverage sales decreased by 1% annually and 3.6% monthly. The businesses that were consulted said that the month was marked by rising inflation and a drop in demand compared to previous months.
*Bazar, decoration, home textiles and furniture suffered a decline in sales of 5.1% annually in September and 3% in the monthly comparison. It was specified that the increase in the financial cost of the last month, the lack of products and the increases due to inflation was what caused the sales to collapse.
*Footwear and leather goods saw their sales drop by 10.5% annually and 5.7% monthly in September. As in the other areas, they blame inflation for discouraging sales in the sector.
*Hardware, electrical materials and construction materials fell 0.6% annually in September and 1% compared to the month. September was more stable than previous months, but price increases discouraged sales.
*Textile and clothing saw its sales collapse with an annual 17% in September and 1.3% in the monthly comparison. It was the sector that suffered the most contraction in sales according to CAME, and it is the fifth month that it has fallen. Increases informality, the evolution of online sales and the rise in prices.
*Pharmacy and perfumery was the only item that increased, and it did so by 8.1% annually and 5.1% monthly. Some pharmacies reported delays in social security payments, so this situation is not recorded in the month because they have not yet been resolved.
