At least 22 dead and 52 people missing left a slide in The Tejeríasan industrial town in central Venezuela, the government reported this Sunday.
“We have found 22 deceased people, there are more than 52 missing people. We are now fundamentally attending to a search front for these people,” said the vice president Delcy Rodriguez from the place of the disaster, reported the AFP agency.
According to AFP, there was destruction of houses and businesses in Las Tejerías.
1,000 officials participate in the rescue worksaid Admiral Remigio Ceballos Ichaso, Minister of the Interior and Justice, who went to the site to verify the damage.
“The town was lost, Las Tejerías was lost,” lamented Carmen Meléndez, who lived her 55 years in this town located about 52 kilometers from the capital, Caracas.
Crews of workers with machinery cleared roads covered with debris and sediment in the worst flood of a river in the area in 30 years.
