With stories of violated women, they urge to design public policies

Open the door for women to be heard

From his first book, love madrazos, in which they addressed dating violence among young people, Ale del Castillo considers that they opened a “door to give women a voice”, and currently things have happened like that violence can already be labeled or named in very specific cases such as the mansplainingfor what they seek with the book is to point out other forms of violence so that women can share their experiences.

“When you ask me why read this book, my answer is because I think we can find each other, I think we can do a personal exercise about what there is of me in those stories, what there is of my friend, my mother, my sister and any other woman who is close to me,” she says.

The journalist comments that they expect the book to be many things at once, reading, information, as well as a preventive tool. “That I take you by the hand to question you directly where you are and what you want to do and that women have a clear option to decide when to end this type of violence, but for that to happen you first have to identify it,” she says.

The literacy of violence has to do with denormalizing and denaturalizing it, the thing is that you have to start seeing them, once you start seeing them you can’t stop”

Here is a snippet of the interview.

Now that violence against women is talked about in many spaces and areas, how do you think we are doing as a country and as a society?

Moises Castillo: I think we are doing very badly. Since Ale and I started writing about these issues 10 years ago, time has passed and things have gotten worse: 10 or 11 women are murdered every day in this country.

In addition, from the National Palace there is a monologue where women are despised and ignored, so I think that these types of issues are used by the political class in an electoral way, they all say they are in favor of women, in favor of end violence against women, but the facts are there.

As a society we are stunned, inactive, we are also failing on this side, each murder of a woman is one more failure of this society.

And this book also invites dialogue and discussion about the future for women and young girls in this country, because every day we see and read cases of disappearances or murders and nothing happens, we normalize violence, we are giving regressive steps, we are in a total regression.
