The Africanist historian and professor at the University of Buenos Aires, Omer Freixa, told the Public Media «that the cause of the discontent is that the mission does not defend the population from the armed groups, especially now from the M23, which does what it wants, with a great financial and arms support that comes from abroad». For the expert it would be “a terrible failure since a withdrawal is never seen with good eyes.”
For his part, the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General Gerardo Fregossi, told the Public Media that he understands that although the final resolution will be up to the Congolese, he sees it as very difficult to withdraw United Nations troops in the short term.
