The Association of Magistrates and Judges of Santa Cruz declared a state of emergency in rejection of the call forthe Council of the Judiciary I call “to the professional lawyers who fulfill the functions of Transitory Judges, to the contest of merits and competency exam. The magistrates established their position in a press conference, issued by Gladis Alba, Shirley Becerra, Carlos Roca, Carlos Mendieta, Patricia Murillo and others.
At the beginning of August, the council of the judiciary issued internal call 29/2022 for career judges considered transitory and now heThe main observations focus on the fact that the call was never agreed upon by the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Santa Cruz, nor by the National Association of Magistrates and Judges.
In addition, on a national scale, a call made by Marvin Molina, who was then president of the Council of the Judiciary, after he was pointed out (with an audio in between) to settle charges with the political power.
After the scandal, Molina resigned from the presidency, but continues to be a director of the institution. That is why they ask for his total resignation.
“Many of us are teachers of the School of Judges itself, trainers, trainers, with more than 25 years of functions in the judicial branch. We see total illegality, arbitrariness, abuse and discrimination in this call. We enter through exams, merit contest. This (summoning them to a competency exam) is outrageous, ”says the statement.
The Santa Cruz judges expressed their concern about the “permanent interference with independence”, and they also regretted that the media blames the judges for the crisis in the administration of justice.”
Total resignation of the President of the Council
Judge Marcelo Barrios, who is part of the National Association of Magistrates and Judges of Bolivia, issued a harsh pronouncement against the call 29/22.
He affirmed that with the latest scandal of the revelation of audios “it is clear that the former president of the Council of the Judiciary, Marvin Molina, has a direct relationship with the political power of the day.”
He affirmed that what the call seeks is to replace all career judges committed to independence. And that the judges “are willing to defend independence because society is suffering every day.”
“The image of justice is on the ground, Marvin Molina is with the political power, we judges are obliged to defend independence. They seek to replace career judges, It is serious, because the image of the Judicial Branch is in tatters. We are firmly going to ask that Molina completely resign from his position,” said Barrios.
