The Mayor of the National District works on solving sinkhole that formed in the street Rose Duarte de Gascue by a torrent of rainwater and the works are expected to last several days.
The problem was caused by the rupture of a galvanized water pipe, which the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewer Corporation (CAASD) began to discover and apparently knocked down the side wall of the sewer, a source reported.
The part of the pipe has been corrected and now a wall is being built with eight-inch blocks to join it to the roof slab and prevent it from collapsing.
The workers work as quickly as possible to finish the jobs, but due to the complexity, it will take a considerable time. In the meantime Traffic on Rosa Duarte Street is suspended until the intervention is completed.
