Armando Quintero Ponce, the driver of the deceased vallenato singer Martín Elías Díaz, was sentenced to 32 months in prison, the Superior Court of Sincelejo confirmed the sentence of 32 months in prison, after being found guilty of causing his death, in a traffic accident that occurred on April 14, 2017, on roads in the department of Sucre, when the artist came to play a concert in the municipality of Coveñas during Holy Week at that time.
The high corporation established that the artist’s death was caused by excessive speed in which the vehicle driven by Quintero Ponce was traveling, in which other musicians were also moving.
At the time of the crash, the vehicle had twice the speed allowed in the area, that is, 157 kilometers per hour on the San Onofre road, Sucre, more exactly in the district of Aguas Negras, where today a monument to his memory rests.

The driver of the damaged vehicle had been sentenced in February 2022, but his defense appealed the ruling, arguing that he was only obeying the orders of his employer who liked to go at high speed.
The ratification of this sentence occurs almost six years after the terrible death of one of the most beloved sons of Diomedes Díaz, his public still has not recovered from this irreparable loss and it was his wife Dayana Jaimes, who denounced the excessive speed in which the driver was traveling, at the time of the accident.
