MADRID, Spain.- A massive accident that occurred this Thursday in eastern Cuba left several people injured, four of them seriously injured.
As specified through Facebook the spokesman for the Joquemen Cuba regime, the incident occurred in La Salada, the Yarey entrance, a point where the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Granma meet.
The accident occurred between a Yutong bus and a van belonging to the Cuba Petróleo company (CUPET) from Santiago de Cuba.
“The president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Contramaestre, Manuel Rodríguez, and the vice president, Adrián Castellanos Nieto, immediately went to the place. The authorities of the National Revolutionary Police were presented, as well as the firefighters of Contramaestre and Jiguaní”, Joquem Cuba pointed out.
The journalist from the radio station Radio Grito de Baire, Roberto Mesa, to share The information highlighted that “the route between Jiguaní and Baire is considered among the most dangerous in the Eastern section of the central highway of the Greater Antilles.”
According to comments from people close to him, the driver of the truck, identified as Osmani, is among those seriously injured and was undergoing surgery.
The bus driver’s wife, Katia Gutiérrez, commented: “Very sad. If anyone knows a family member of the truck driver, let me know how I can locate them.”
At the close of first half of 2022 Cuban authorities reported that all provinces had increased accidents by 93% over the previous year, except for the Isla de la Juventud Special Municipality.
According to the Cuban Government, the main causes of accidents are speeding, not respecting the right of way, the consumption of alcoholic beverages, technical problems and driver distraction.
In addition to these causes, the poor condition of the roads and the country’s aging vehicle fleet, where cars over 50 years old, also influence the high number of accidents. To this are added the poor signage on the streets, the lack of lighting and little road education.
