Two surfers with their boards under their arms, who had just come out of the Brava beach in Punta del Estethey looked at President Luis Lacalle Pou which was half a block away. The president was in front of the Trump Tower, at stop 9. A group of supporters arrived to take endless selfies and, after shouts of support from an older woman who was in an apartment in the adjoining tower, Lacalle Pou entered the new building.
After touring the facilities, Lacalle Pou returned to the lobby and cut the inauguration ribbon together with the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera; the deputy minister of that same portfolio, Remo Monzeglio; the mayor of Maldonado, Enrique Antía; the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, and the owners of the units in the tower.
Once the tight tape broke in two, the iconic song of the 80s began to play. Celebration, from the group Kool & the Gang. The celebration of those present was not only due to the mere opening of the building, but also had to see it long journey that the developers went through to finalize the work.
The work of the mega-complex, whose investment was around US$ 120 million, began 10 years ago when its construction was announced, a fact that included the presence in Punta del Este of Eric and Ivanka Trump – children of the tycoon and former US president, Donald Trump. In 2018 the construction began to slow down to stop in 2019. In June of that year the project seemed hopeless, even the New York Times came to call the skyscraper “the white elephant of Punta del Este”.
After the move of a group of 120 owners of the work, which was formed in 2020 and is led by Rolando Rozemblum, the Trump Tower was inaugurated this Friday. It was under a trust that the owners took control of the work and were thus able to find a way out of the problem.
“The greatest difficulty we faced was comparing this undertaking with the others in the area, from the tax point of view; the government of Lacalle Pou and Mayor Antía greatly supported the project”, said Rozemblum.
Although it is not yet completely finished, the complex has a total of 160 luxury units, with a view of the sea in a mirrored format of 360 degrees. Currently, 120 properties have already been acquired and there are 20 ready to be delivered. The cost of the unit ranges from US$ 5,000 to US$ 6,000 per square meter. Units currently available are valued at US$ 800 thousand.
The apartments are accessed by 13 state-of-the-art elevators. The units have hot-cold climate control in each room, even remotely from a wireless device.
80% of the owners are Argentinesindicated Rozemblum, who also added that there is still a year of work left to definitively complete the Trump brand cylindrical tower.
The relationship of this real estate project with Donald Trump “is the brand licensing that its developer owns,” concluded Rozemblum. The name of that company is Faroy SA
