A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime of migrant smuggling, in its aggravated form.

This man, in addition, was imposed as an accessory penalty, disqualification from exercising public functions for a term of two years.

According to the Public Ministry, which through the First Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime, reached a sentence agreement issued by the Court of Guarantees in West Panama, the sentenced person is a Panamanian.

The events were recorded on March 16, 2021, when Frank Aizprúa Amaranto was apprehended aboard a taxi-type vehicle, along with two minors, irregular migrants, from Bangladesh. The authorities highlighted that the migrants were kept in custody in a hostel in the province of Panamá Oeste.

The minors, who sought to reach the United States of America, after coordination with the sentenced person, escaped from the shelter and boarded the car that he was driving and that was waiting for them outside the premises, to facilitate their exit from the national territory; however, due to the rapid action of the National Police, they were rescued.
