President Alberto Fernandez visited this Thursday the 59th National Flower Festivalthe largest floriculture exhibition in Latin America, in the Buenos Aires city of Belén de Escobar, where he was accompanied by the secretary of Knowledge Economy and licensed mayor, Ariel Sujarchukand the current communal chief, Carlos “Beto” Ramil.
The president toured the premises and maintained contact with the large public that was in the place, and even took “selfies” with the people.
Ramil uploaded numerous photos to his Instagram account with various moments of the presidential visit, in which he wrote: “Together with Ariel, we received President Alberto Fernández and visited our 59th National Flower Festival.”
After the tour, the president watched the film with hundreds of students “Argentina, 1985”directed by Santiago Miter and starring Ricardo Darín and Peter Lanzani in the roles of prosecutors Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo.
He then shared a talk with them about the events narrated in the film, referring to the trial of the civic-military dictatorship boards that usurped power in the country between 1976 and 1983. The military leaders were tried and sentenced in 1985 .
Ramil also published several photos about it and said that “together with the President and hundreds of students we saw ‘Argentina, 1985’ and discussed the importance of Democracy, Memory, Truth and Justice.”
This activity took place in the historic Seminari Theater, where the film that will represent the country in the 2023 Oscar Award was screened, in the category of Best International Film.
As in all the rooms of the country, “Argentina, 1985” is a box office hit at the Cine Italia, housed in that theater.
After the screening of the feature film, the President spoke with secondary school students in the municipality about the importance of democratic values.
The Teatro Seminari Cine Italia Escobar, built in 1889, was the seat of the town’s first mutual entity and housed the first movie theaters in the district.
After years of neglect, and in danger of collapsing, the cultural space was restored, expanding its capacity to 450 people.
It is currently considered one of the best state halls in the province of Buenos Aires for its heritage value.
The details of the 59th edition of the festival
The National Flower Festival will run until October 10 and features recitals by top-level artists, talks and colloquiums on caring for the environment and sustainability.
This year the show has more than one hundred exhibitors and nurserymen from all over the country.
The property, which has already been visited by more than 150,000 people since its opening on September 30, covers 17 landscaped hectares and a covered area of 7,000 square meters divided into 3 naves.
It has a magnificent rose garden, rest areas, recreation and gastronomy services and is suitable for alternative tourism. It also has its own power generation system and a large parking lot.
On its website, it recalls that “in 1983 the artificial lake was enlarged, covering 7,500 m2. This addition gave rise to that year’s masterpiece: the Carrillón de las Flores. This monument has 18 bronze bells, an electronic musicalization and is the most important in operation in our country”.
The Florihorticulture and Gardening Institute, an Agrarian Secondary School for Private Education, also operate within the property.
On Saturday, October 8, the date that Escobar Day will be celebrated, the traditional parade of floats will be held with the participation of all the towns.
