This Thursday, October 6, at the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI), the union leader Juan Martín Caicedo; the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López; the manager of the Metro de Bogotá company, Leonidas Narvaez; and the president of the National Development Finance (FDN), Francisco Lozano; detailed the project of the second line of the Metro of the capital of the country, which will pass through 72nd Street, Engativá and will end in Suba (layout of 72nd Street Avenue – Cali Avenue – ALO – 145th Street).

The manager of the Metro de Bogotá company assured that the project will have 11 stations in 15.5 kilometres, of which 14.3 kilometers are underground, that is, 10 stations. In addition, the line will serve more than 49,000 people by the year 2042 through 25 trains.
“This line has benefits concentrated in a population of 2.5 million inhabitants in an area with a transportation deficit. People who take more than 1 hour to get to 72nd Street will take 25 minutes”, Narvaez pointed out.
Regarding the investment, this project has a co-financing between the Government and the District to add $34.9 billion ($24.4 billion and $10.5 respectively). Of COP 32.9 billion, COP 16.1 billion will be allocated in Capex (cost of civil works, supervision, purchase of properties, transfer of networks, among others) and COP 18.8 billion in financing.
Of the $10.5 billion that the district administration will contribute, $1.84 billion will be through a debt quota approved by the District Council; COP 1.73 billion will be from dividend payments and COP 6.9 billion will be from ordinary resources.

“It is a financially closed project and has a positive cost-benefit ratio. Despite the interest rates at the interest level, the project is worth financing at this time and contracting it next year so that in 2032 we can start commercial operation”, Narvaez pointed out.
It is to remember that the opening of the public bidding process will begin on June 16, 2023 and must be awarded on October 24 of that same year, in order to start the construction stage in August 2025.
To achieve this goal, the National Development Finance (FDN) ensured that they will need 4.2 million cubic meters in excavations in tunnels, stations and patio. 1.3 million cubic meters of concrete will be required.

Juan Martín Caicedo, president of the CCI, highlighted the district’s commitment to materialize a project that has been discussed for more than 20 years.
“It is the most formidable infrastructure work in the country and highlights many things: trust in institutions, in the legal framework, in the basic principle of trust in investors, and it is a vote for a work that has no political owners. , is the product of a pragmatic exercise“, said.

In her turn, the mayor claudia lopez spoke about the progress of the Metro lines: “Bogotá will do in 10 years what it did not do in 50. It was a great effort to complete the second Metro line in two years, which took 20 years for the first line. The project had two political obstacles: the first, political sabotage by past mayors; the second, that we did not have a joint view on mobility in the country. And this would not be solved with engineering, but with common sense, and we have put it in the Development Plan of Bogotá, in the POT and the Compex. Bogotá will not depend on buses and cars, it was a wrong decision that we made more than 25 years ago, now Bogotá will have a multimodal public transport network based on a metro network. Why? Because we are 10 million people, 8 in Bogotá and 2 in Bogotá-region”.

With this project, it is expected to reduce 143,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
