The Draft Resolution 110-22 that declares the State of Environmental Emergency in the provinces of Colón, Chiriquí, Panama, Comarca Ngäbe-Buglé and Comarca Guna Yala, due to the intense rains that have affected these areas, was approved this Thursday 6 September at the Cabinet Council.
The Minister of the Environment, Milciades Concepción, indicated that national laws give the authority to declare this state of environmental emergency and that, given these conditions, it establishes that by declaring a State of Emergency, state entities will be able to contract acquisitions of food and services, among others, through of special procedure.
The Cabinet also approved an extension for an additional 6 months to the validity of Cabinet Decree 5 of March 30, 2021, which establishes measures related to the marketing of roasted coffee.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Federico Alfaro, explained that this recommendation arose after a meeting of the Coffee Agrifood Chain held on September 16, with representatives of the production, processing industry and government sector present, where the measure was evaluated. of control to the commercialization of imported coffee.
He indicated that the Inter-institutional Commission for the Defense of National Production evaluated the request of the Coffee Agro-food Chain and approved recommending the extension of the validity of the Decree, since by limiting the growing rate of imports of roasted coffee, the sale of roasted coffee has been allowed. national production, reactivating the economy and the levels of employment in said sector and the conditions have been created in the market for the commercialization of national roasted coffee and the entry into the domestic market of new brands of roasted coffee has been allowed.
