Washington, .- The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinkenoffered this Thursday the support of his Government to Thailand after the massacre perpetrated by a former police officer that killed 37 people, including 22 minors.
“The United States is ready to help our Thai allies in the aftermath of this tragedy,” the diplomat said in a statement offering his condolences to the “Thai people.”
“This violence is heartbreaking and unjustified,” Blinken added.
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha ordered an urgent investigation on Thursday into what happened in the town of Uthai Sawan, about 500 kilometers northeast of the capital.
The author, who has been identified as a former police officer, was expelled last year from the force for drug possession and, apparently, committed the attack stressed by the judicial process against him and under the influence of amphetamines.
Mass shootings in Thailand are rare, but in 2020 a soldier killed at least 29 people and wounded 58 in an altercation that spanned multiple locations, including a military camp and a large shopping mall in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.
