This Wednesday, October 5, within the framework of the Naturgas Congress, President Gustavo Petro indicated that gas would play a role in the energy transition. He explained that within the framework of the creation of the National Development Plan, dialogue and planning discussions will take place to make the energy transition.

During his speech, the president admitted that paper “plays a positive role.” And in this framework this energy will have a place “when it lowers emissions and is cheaper”.
He explained that the gas itself is a relevant energy for the transition. “I’m not going to argue with you that gas is a transition source, much less that it’s better than burning wood. That’s where we started 30 years ago. That is not the discussion, but how the transition is made in Colombia,” he said.
However, he asserted that to the extent that there is carbon in the chemical composition of an energy source, this cannot be considered really clean.

President Petro pointed out that this, rather than a difficulty or a cost for the industry, should be seen as an opportunity, given that both the country and the region have great potential to produce electricity with clean sources.
During his speech, the president pointed out that the case of Europe is “a disaster of humanity” given that he is making a transition to coal and said that this was a “regression”.
He also spoke about Prodeco saying that while global demand is increasing, “what is going to happen to humanity?” He explained that it is not only a matter of the country receiving more resources for this type of energy, but that it also implies a series of long-term risks to the planet.
