After four intermediate quarters requested by the National Party and the Broad Front for the euthanasia law in the Chamber of Deputies, a cross between the lobbyist Edward Lust and the nationalist Gonzalo Mujica.

Cabildo Abierto deputy Eduardo Lust expressed his annoyance at the four suspensions of the session.

He said “not knowing” the text that will finally go to vote and appealed to the regulations to request the adjournment of the session “until they present a text”.

Lust insisted that he was wasting a lot of time in the debate because, along the way, “They are drafting a new form of homicide.” His proposal was rejected: he had 10 votes in favor out of 64 present.

Nationalist deputy Gonzalo Mujica questioned Lust’s claims. “It seems to me that it is possible to ask to adjourn a session for many reasons. What cannot be requested is to adjourn the session by making believe that, when some proposed modifications to the text are being discussed, the chamber is not working,” he said. .

Mujica stated that “it is part of parliamentary work” the discussion and negotiation of the text. “We are not in fourth quarter because we are playing cards on the benches,” she said. “We are in the middle room because there are colleagues who are in charge of a negotiation because the law is important,” she said. And he aimed at Lust: “Here with the cameras on, all the worst things in Parliament appear, the antics also appear.

The parliamentary debate on the euthanasia law is scheduled to last until Tuesday. As reported The Observer, it is an initiative that only requires a simple majority of those present. In the event that there are 99 legislators in the room at the time of the definition, it will be enough for 50 to raise their hands.

There are 41 legislators from the Broad Front who agree with the initiative. Of the 13 Colorado deputies, in that community there are 10 votes to approve the project. Iván Posada (Independent Party) and the representative of the People’s Party, either Daniel Peña —on sick leave— or his substitute, are willing to cast their vote. An important group of National Party deputies are willing to support the bill.
